Safety first: gas smell or carbon monoxide alarm
If you smell gas or your carbon monoxide (CO) alarm sounds, leave your home immediately. From outside, call 911 or PGW. Do not flip light switches, do not light anything, and do not go back inside until you are told it is safe.
What counts as an emergency
- No heat in freezing weather
- No air conditioning when it is above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Burning or electrical smells
- Major water leaks from your HVAC system
- Ice buildup on your system
If you are unsure whether your problem is an emergency, call us and describe what is happening. We will help you decide what to do next.
What happens when you call
- Call us and tell us what is happening with your system.
- We will ask a few questions about the problem and any safety concerns.
- We will arrange a visit and confirm what to expect.
- A technician will diagnose the problem and explain the next steps before any work begins.
Before you call: quick checklist
If it is safe to do so, check these items before you call. They can help speed up the visit.
- Breaker: check whether the breaker for your heating or cooling system has tripped.
- Filter: check whether the air filter is dirty or clogged.
- Thermostat: check the thermostat settings and batteries.
- Condensate drain: check for visible water or a blockage around the condensate drain.
Do not open panels or attempt repairs you are not comfortable with. If anything looks unsafe, leave it alone and call us.
